The Beachcruiser.Com-Opinion

August 31, 2006

Hey,

I want to share my opinion on a topic that goes to the very soul of who we are and why we started the beachcruiser.com.I first want to mention that the third picture that train posted today is not from Las Vegas Bikefest but a photo of a motorcycle built by Bourgets Bike Works.

I got my third hate mail tonight from the same “person”.I normally would not mention it as that is our policy.I will not mention the name nor will I ever respond to this kind of attempted intimidation. We began this website because we became fed up with all the bullying, intimidation tactics, exploitation, insults, and foul language spoken by morons who do not seem to be able to commincate in any other way.We finally got sick of it and started this website. We have become a player in the industry thanks to all the people who read us.We have our readers to thank for that and we become more humbled every day.I will not mention this fools”moniker” or i.p. address nor will I respond again. This “person” is not welcome here.I think it’s interesting that only one fool has visited here without welcome to spew hatred and say some very nasty things about us and you who read us.

Specifically, this goon doesn’t like what we have to say about OCC.He hates us and you who express their opinions.I say this is America and each and every one of us is entitled to an opinion. If this fool doesn’t like that he can do us a favor and disappear or he(or she) can move to another country where people are censored and not permitted to express themselves.

I want to say that Jesse James and the Teutels from OCC were at the forefront of the explosion in the custom motorcycle business.I am not referring to anything other than the fact that they landed on t.v. and millions were able to see what a custom motorcycle was and what it was about. The thing took off and made Jesse rich enough to do whatever he wants and the Teutels very rich as well. The t.v. also was a stepping stone for many builders and people in the motorcycle industry.A lot of people who few,if anyone knew about became media stars and very wealthy.I mean a lot of people from builders,to painters,to parts makers,to Hugh King, to mechanics who morphed,to a lot of sattelite people who make clothes and Jewlery, and art etc. with the motorcycle as the theme. It’s kind of like professional sports. Those guys don’t make their money(outrageous amounts) because of the people who go to ball games. The money is there because of multi billion dollar t.v. deals and the sale of clothing and merchandise and whatever else they can pump out to the public.

We have several people who have expressed an opinion on OCC on this website. We have,on occassion expressed our own opinion as well.We encourage these opinions and will continue to post what you have to say as well as what we think. We have never nor will we ever omit a positive post on OCC.The sad fact is,we haven’t gotten many if any at all. Those of you who like what OCC is doing please step up and express yourselves. You are welcome here and your opinion will be posted for all to see.As I have said from the very beginning,we have only one rule. The rule is to respect anothers opinion and their rights. We don’t do intimidation here.We feel only bottom feeders speak only  four letter words and frankly,we don’t want em here. They are not welcome. We say we are a step above and we mean it.You can come here and express yourself without fear, without ridicule, without blocking your kid from reading us.We are proud of that.

Our opinion on OCC is pretty simple. We loved the show in the beginning. This was before Mikey(nothing against him),before all the money, before the bobble head dolls, before the destruction of property for “fun”,before they went hollywood, before all the houses and cars and equiptment and the parade of ex OCC workers who were put down and gotten rid off on a public forum. We had Nub,then we didn’t have Nub then we had Nub again. We had a very talented kid who did some of the best paint in our opinion get bounced for all to see.

I suppose, what I am trying to say is that OCC in the beginning was fun. These guys had very little. They were struggling to get going and fulfill a dream. We dug that. This isn’t about what they built as everyone has different tastes and that’s fine.As they grew and became rich and famous the show simply got worse and worse. It is really a show about building theme bikes for companies who know little if anything about a motorcycle and use these machines for publicity and marketing. That’s fine if that’s what you’re into.We are not.Jesse James,Billy Lane,Dave Perewitz,Indian Larry(rip),Matt Hotch,Kendall Johnson,Ron Finch,Mike Pugliese,Roger Bourget,Rick Fairless,Arlen and Cory Ness,Eddie Trotta,Joe Martin,Russell Mitchell,Aaron Greene,Paul Cox,Shinya,Mondo,Rick Krost,Trevelen, and a bunch of others are the motorcycle industry to us and,to most of those who read us.I know I left out a bunch but,not on purpose. Then, there are the people who we don’t know who have immense talent and are waiting to be discovered.

The guy who hates us and you is a fool who doesn’t get it.There are other sites for him (or her) to go to and curse and hate and to try and intimidate. You’re not welcome here.I have it in my power to make you non-existent at least on this website and,as of right now.You do not exist.

The Beachcruiser.Com-Violated Again

August 31, 2006

  Ah,

The joys of running a website.  Our server was violated for the second time in 4 months.  We will fix it tomorrow and be our old in your face, pumping news, information laden website we work so hard to be.

Sorry if we let you down today but it happens in this cyber space deal.  I don’t like it and I would love to meet some of these hackers that do it just to destroy other people’s property or steal people’s personal information.  We operate through a very secure server so even if we get hacked, no one gets your stuff.   It’s just a major pain in the ass.  I got something special for these folks and it’s free.

T-Shirts-Rick Fairless-Vegas Bike Fest

August 29, 2006

  Hey,

We got an e-mail from our friend Rick Fairless today.  He wants one of our t-shirts.  It’s cool when a man of Rick’s taste and position wants to wear a Beachcruiser shirt.  We will be shipping it out.  Come on, get yours before we run out of the first batch.  We didn’t think about t-shirts till a couple or three weeks ago.  The response we’re getting is cool.  Thanks to all our readers.

Train and I got our media passes for Las Vegas Bike Fest in the mail.  We thank the Schwartz’s for getting them to us so quickly.  The event is taking place Sept. 14-17.  Train and I will be there a couple of days early to get ready.  We hope to have some interesting stuff for you to puruse while we are out there and after.  Let’s see.  That’s a little less than two weeks.  I know Train will want to start getting ready pretty soon.

We’re getting pounded by what seems to be the front of Ernesto.  It’s raining the proverbial cat’s and dogs.  We lost cable and I better get off before this old computer fries.  See you tomorrow.

Ivy Trosclair + Ivy 3 vs Kevin Alsop

August 28, 2006

  Hey,

Well,it feels good to be pumped about a BBO and I am pumped.I thought this was the best episode so far.  Please bear with me if I am a little long winded. It wasn’t so much about the motorcycles for me.It was about the people, the build, the passion involved.

Kevin Alsop is obviously a very passionate man.He started with nothing and now has a 20 million dollar business. He has done this in 10 yrs.along with his wife and the people who work with him.I have been criticized by some for saying that the custom thing really took off about 10 yrs. ago. It’s interesting that the more builders I get to know, the more I am sure of that opinion. There have been folks doing custom work since the 40’s and 50’s.People like Arlen Ness,Dave Perewitz,Mondo,Ron Finch, and a few others were building and customizing earlier but,the thing really exploded in the 90’s.Kevin set up shop in 1996.Roger Bourget,Eddie Trotta,Paul Yaffe,Mike Pugliese,Rick Fairless,Billy Lane,Big Dog,and a bunch of others all broke out about the same time.I think Larry(rip) and Jesse also began in that time frame. The same for the suppliers(Corbin,J+P, and many others) I rest my case.

I thoght  Kevin was a cool guy .It was a good feeling to see him involed in every phase of his build.Big Bear makes everything from frame to Handlebars themselves. They have cnc machines and equiptment worth over 1 1/2 million dollars. They earned every penny as they started with nothing. It’s another Horatio Alger story in the motorcycle industry.Kevin went from outlaw to manufacturer almost overnite. He is a perfectionist and wants everything made in his shop to reflect his pride. He is an Australian who is now a proud American and isn’t shy about it.He builds American customs, period. This motorcycle was an interesting machine even if it wasn’t exactly my taste.I’m not a chooper guy but,you all know that.I do however, appreciate the way the motorcycle was thought out, constructed, and the attention to detail both mechanically and cosmetically.I thought it was enviable that Kevin dedicated the build to the daughter of his best friend and employee who passed.I thought that it was very cool that Kevin then gave the motorcycle to his friend. The man has been with him from the beginning.

I really like Ivy Trosclair.I love that New Orleans twang and his dedication to what he does.I also admire the fact that he is so positive after having endured hurricane Katrina which took his home, his shop, his wife, and would have crushed a lesser man.Ivy was building and selling $100,000 motorcycles and then there was nothing.I don’t know of too many people with the guts to keep going in such a positive fashion.Ivy was a custom painter of cars before he started building motorcycles. It sounds familiar as that’s how Arlen,Dave Perewitz,Joe Martin and others started out.

I was impressed that Ivy was right there and involved in the entire build. His son Ivy 3 rubbed me the wrong way at times but, there is no denying that he is very talented. He did most of the fab and did an amazing job seeing as the shop was almost totally destroyed. They had no equiptment and such a short time to make the build. The Trosclair’s and Trevelen both had to make their motorcycles with a lot less than some of the builders.Ivy’s crew was very small and he and junior built a kick ass motorcycle. The engine was made by Kendall(who else?).It was a 125 which has some kick to it.This motorcycle was also a chopper but,I really appreciate the talent, work, creativity, and heart that went into it.I think the Trosclair’s of Metry should stand tall. They did experience some trouble with the suicide shift cable but were able to fix it twice along the road to Daytona. They went by the rules and what the hell?. A faulty clutch cable is not exactly a design flaw but,you can’t run without one.

I really enjoyed this episode for the reason I have stated.I enjoyed both men,the skills they have, the passion they have, the sportsmanship, the competition.I think both of these men are a credit to our industry and people who represent the art the way it should be done.

The winner was Kevin Alsop of Big Bear Choppers.Second place went to Ivy Trosclair and Ivy 3 of Metry. What did you think?

Sugar Bear at Las Vegas BikeFest

August 28, 2006

Brother Bear will most definitely be in attendance at the upcoming event. But we’re hoping that his artwork won’t “stay in Vegas”! ;-) (Okay, I know. I’m sick of hearing it too. I just couldn’t resist.)

Sugar Bear doesn’t have a website, so it was a little difficult to dig up information on him and his shop. We do have some kick ass pics, however. We even have what I think is an exclusive shot of Billy Lane’s Breakfast Event. (Hey, Bill. The JD. It’s not just for breakfast anymore! ;-))

If any of you brothers and sisters can give us a little more info on Sugar Bear, please do. Until then, we hope you enjoy these pics.

Kevin Alsop vs Ivy Trosclair

August 28, 2006

Hey,

I’m going to take a chance and remind you that Monday night at 9:pm e.s.t. BBO will feature Kevin Alsop of Big Bear Choppers vs Ivy Trosclair. They duped me last week but I have checked three spots and all say we will be seeing these guys.

I am going to stick my neck out and say this should be pretty good.I am intrigued by Kevin as his company makes both kits and finished customs.I think the motorcycles are pretty nice.He also makes parts available for purchase. As you know,I am a pro-street kind of guy and I find the 300 sled which I have not seen in person to be an attractive motorcycle that has gotton pretty good reviews.Big Bear builds motorcycles that are more affordable than a lot of the machines out there.I plan on seeing the line real soon and then I can give you a more informed opinion.I have seen the motorcycle Big Bear made and I am curious to see how the build comes off on t.v.

Ivy Trosclair is a very talented guy.We have featured some of his art on the beachcruiser and we like it.Ivy is another builder who is getting some well deserved attention. We are glad that he is getting his 15 minutes(45 actually) of fame.I will be interested to see what our readers thing of this build off.I am hoping Hugh and the gang turn things around some after a disappointing start to the season.

Let us know what you think.
