We are happy that a number of folks have recognized The Beachcruiser as a place they want to sponsor. We likewise are very particular about who we suggest our family and readers do business with.We take it personally as,with everything else here, we want to bring you the best.

The banner will go up shortly. We feel that everyone who choses to visit here, join our family, make a comment, join the family jewels and support our effort is validation of the quality and content we offer.

Big Twin West

November 29, 2006

We won’t be able to make it to Big Twin West this year and we’re sorry for more reasons than one.  First, it would be a chance to meet Arlen Ness in person.  The second would be the chance to get to meet the lovely Marjorie Kleiman from American Iron Retail in person.  She’s one really sweet lady we’ve had the good fortune to meet through Rick Fairless and she does a bang up job.  However, since we can’t be there, we thought we would give you the run down courtesy of the event’s public homepage.  You may visit it here. Hopefully, we will be able to make it for next year’s event! :-)

Family Jewels Update

November 29, 2006

Hi everyone,

I think I’ve got the bugs worked out of the Hank Young photo gallery.  Please check out the new improved version and let me know what still needs fixing.  We never stop trying to improve here at TheBeachCruiser.com! :-)

There is also a new article by Rick Fairless that I posted early this morning.  I’m working on a new gallery with some nice eye candy from Darryl Briggs.  And, of course, Beach has the interview scheduled with Kim Suter coming up really soon.  Please, tell all your friends about The Family Jewels.  We can’t bring you the kind of quality content you deserve without your support.  For $12 measly bucks a year, it’s an absolute steal.  Why not give a gift subscription to your friends at work?  Where can you get off that cheap and that easily?

Also, if anyone has any problems whatsoever with the signup process or in trying to login or even after you’ve logged in, please send Train an email at train@thebeachcruiser.com and she will be more than glad to walk you through it.  She’s very helpful that way.

Happy Hump Day everybody!

Goldammer

November 28, 2006

Hey,

I had a nice chat with Roger today.Hell, we must have spoken for close to an hour.Roger lives and works in western Canada and he was telling me there is a lot of snow right now.The conversation went all over as these things have a tendancy to do.It was mostly about motorcycles and the industry but,I learned a lot about how Roger thinks, how he feels about things and just got to know him better.

I was actually calling to check in and see how he was doing and when we could do our interview. It turns out that the conversation we had was probably better than any interview I can do as it was just free flowing and covered a lot of territory. It never dawned on me when I placed the call to record it(with permission) of course so,I didn’t.He said he would be out of town the early part of next week and we could do it when he returns.Roger works pretty much alone and spends most of his time in his shop.He doesn’t read his e-mail but once in awhile as he is focused on what he is doing. It sounded like he has more than one frying pan in the fire right now.I found that there are a number of common threads amongst the best in the industry which is very interesting.

Roger is very bright, very open(at least with me),very nice, well spoken and of course,an artist and an incredibly talented builder of motorcycles. He was really turned on by his experience at Bonneville this year and plans on returning next year with something new.Actually,he planned to go back shortly after his build-off with Matt Hotch but, they were locked and loaded to go when the rains came and everything was cancelled.

I am really looking forward to our interview and I hope it goes as well as today went.A few days after I do it,it will be on the family jewels.I have Kim Suter coming up this week and then Roger.Things are moving right along and pretty soon The Jewels will be a librabry of interviews with the best the industry has to offer.A real collectors edition.I hope you all take advantage of something special you can’t find anywhere else.

Bean Blossom Boogie?

November 28, 2006

It’s amazing some of the search terms that come up on our Swicki.  I had never heard of this event before, even though I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the Indiana area (not exactly by choice… ;-)  However, when I found the site, I thought it was worth sharing with family members.  Those of you in that area may want to mark your calendars.  It looks like a blast.  Please note that I took this announcement directly from the ABATE site, so please visit them at  ABATE of Indiana.  All text and photos are copyrighted to them and only reproduced here for your information.

Mark your calendar! BOOGIE 2007 July 19-22, 2007

The History of the Boogie

In the Beginning…

2girls

God created the water, land and the elements. The planet prospered and man evolved. Life was simple and free. But man wanted more. In a quest for true freedom, man created the motorcycle in 1885 and shortly thereafter the biker.

They were a misunderstood group of individuals. Rejected and scorned by society - social outcasts. But that didn’t stop them. They threw the stereotype aside and lived there own life, free and proud. Willing to stand up for their own rights and the freedom of the road.Bigmike

But that was not enough. Something was missing. They needed a place to let down their hair, loosen up their leathers - be wild and free. If only just for one weekend - maybe the second, no the third weekend in July. When the weather is ideal for camping, music and fun in the summer sun. A voice from above told them, “have a party and they will come.”

When, in the summer of 1980, at a small farm in Kokomo, Indiana, 250 people gathered to celebrate a way of life. Oh what a time they had. “Let’s do it again next year”, they said. And in 1981, they once again gathered in a small town called Atkinsonville - 750 strong!

Tophat But, in 1982, the wisdom of the Indiana ABATE forefathers bestowed upon the biker community a land of riches and beauty. Nestled in heart of Brown County, Indiana, lie a haven of natures finest scenery, welcoming the wayward biker to Bean Blossom. And the first Boogie was born. The bikers came in droves, thousands at a time. Just to spend a weekend enjoying life and freedom in Mother Nature’s arms. Grooving to the sounds of: The Jeff Healy Band; Foghat; Blackfoot; Steppenwolf; The Kentucky Headhunters; David Allen Coe; Molly Hatchet; Duke Tumatoe; Three Dog Night; 38 Special; and others. Free to be themselves and to be with others like them.

Boogie Quotes: “It was the most unique experience of a lifetime, and the kindness that brothers showed brothers, touched our very souls.”

“Best organized event for that number of people… People were courteous and respectful.”

Studly“Thank you for the freedom we were able to experience — freedom to do anything, anytime… Nobody was judgmental and everyone respected each person’s individualness and uniqueness.” “…your Boogie is the best event that ever happened, not only for us but for those 8,000 or so other people. Thanks!”

“I’ve been to a lot of parties and the Boogie leaves them all way behind.”

Dancer

Now, whoever knew Hoosiers could party like this?

Beachcruiser Interview-Kim Suter-V-Twin T.V.

November 28, 2006

Hey,

The next podcast interview will be with Kim Suter.Kim owns K.C. Creations and is another great builder you will get to know.Kim did a BBO this year vs Gypsy Charro.Kim built a teriffic motorcycle but what was most impressive to me is that he was willing to go on with Gypsy. No,it’s not about the boy builder girl builder thing. It’s about a master builder walking into a lions den with nothing really to gain and a lot to lose.I mean say what you will but Kim had the guts to be the first. He is the first man to build vs a woman builder ever on national t.v.Sounds dumb for me to be making an issue about that huh? well,I wonder how many other guys would be willing to do it first.I respect Kim for doing it as well as his obvious gifts in creating motorcycle art.I look forward to asking him about the experience and questions neither I,or you,or Kim has thought about yet.It will be on The Family Jewels.

We have Roger Goldammer,Doug Keim,Jason Hart,my partner Rick Fairless, and more, many more waiting in the wings. At the end of the day you can own a library of podcasts with many great builders, many industry icons, people who started companies that changed the business and so much more. You can have it all for $12.You also get event coverage, hot classy women, photos, news, and articles by the masters. There is an article on the jewels now by Rick about the motorcycle industry as he sees it.It’s a good read for all who claim to be enthusiasts.Rick made it happen so,his opinion carries a lot of weight and respect.

V-Twin T.V. reappears on The Learning Channel tomorrow night. It is a NEW episode. It’s on at 9:30 or 10:pm E.S.T so you can work off of that depending on where you live. It’s new,it’s about motorcycles,I’ll be there.

El Rey By Warren Lane

November 27, 2006

Hey,

Thanks to family member Zee, I got to see pictures of Warren Lane’s El Rey. It’s a beautiful example of motorcycle art. Warren of course is the brother of Billy Lane. This motorcycle is very different than any I have seen from Billy. As Warren himself says it’s a piece of art that he has worked on for years. That’s right, years. It really is a work of art. Warren said cost and time did not fit into the equation. He did not compromise anything. Go to the website and you can see for yourself. We can’t put the photo up here because we don’t have the photographer’s permission but we can give you the website where the motorcycle can be viewed. The website is www.runningroots.blogspot.com

You can scroll down, go to El Rey and see Warrens work and comments.
