More Great Work From Dawson

December 31, 2006

Dawson has treated us to more of his art. This time he has some shots of the great Arlen Ness’ creations, another of Mr. Fairless’ work, a couple of Redneck Engineering’s Vincent custom and a few others. Dawson has been out to Sturgis the past two years and says he would love to go back this time. However, he’s having a hard time getting his spouse and employer to understand the logistics of the scheduling. We just don’t understand and hope that he’s able to get them to see how critically important it is that he attend this event. ;-)

Here are the images to delight your senses at any rate…

Happy New Year

December 31, 2006

Hey,

It’s been raining here for 3 days.We were hoping for some clear skies but, no cigars.2007 is just around the corner so me and Train are getting ready for the new year.We think it’s going to be a good one.We need a good one.

The Beachcruiser marches on.We have lots of things planned and we are excited about that.We are expanding into video which will be exciting for us and  and another dimension for you. We are already lining up more interviews and our podcast library will continue to grow.We are expecting a lot to happen in the industry this year and we here at the beachcruiser will bring it to you. Our mantra is “we bring you the news first or damn close to it”. We will be attending the V-Twin expo in Cincinnati in just four weeks where we will get a chance to visit with our brothers and sisters and to see what we can expect in 2007. The expo is for industry insiders. It will give us the opportunity to see what magic has been created for us to enjoy. The event is only 3 short days which is not long enough. It is Cincinnati in the winter however, which kind of limits what you can do.Never the less, it is an opportunity to see most everyone at the same time. The closest thing to that is of course Sturgis. We will also attend a local show in Atlanta shortly after Cincy which we always try and attend. We have made plans for the Heritage in Charleston, South Carolina in April. This show will feature arguably the best line up of builders ever assembled for a build-off. The lure is a one million dollar, winner take all, prize. We’re set for Sturgis which is always exciting. We will add to our schedule as the year unfolds. We are hoping that our family members will be at the shows we can’t attend and will write about them, take photos, and send them to us so we can share them with all of you.The photos that Dawson took are an example of what we mean. Our partner, the great Rick Fairless goes to many events so, we know he will be telling you and showing you as only Rick can do.We are affiliating with a number of folks who will just make this website better and better. We are also hoping to attend a charity event that master builder and painter Dave Perewitz holds every year. We are excited about that.

Well, that’s just a small sampling of what to expect from the Beachcruiser this new year. There will be so much more!!! We are committed to taking this website to yet another level. A higher level. We want to thank every single person who has come here in 2006.It was our first year of life and we have been amazed and grateful for the response we have received. We are hoping that 2007 will bring a much larger family and a truly unique experience. We are committed to making this website the ONE place where people with a passion for motorcycles MUST visit. We have a dream you see and we are going to fulfill it.We ask everyone to dream along with us.

Tonight is a night of celebration and everyone likes to party. We hope that all of our family will be smart and stay off the road if they plan on tipping  more than a couple. We value each and every one of you and want everyone to stay safe.Life is good so, be smart. We have a great new year to share together.

We have a few more photos that Dawson sent us which we will post today. We have some Arlen Ness and some other photos which are excellent. Dawson did a great job and we appreciate his sharing his work.

Be cool, have fun, and tomorrow we start a new.

And The Winner Is…

December 31, 2006

We promised to draw one winner from all those who signed up for The Family Jewels between December 18th and 30th for a free Biker Build Off DVD. We would like to announce that winner now! It is Merrill Jarvis of Burlington, Vermont!!! Congratulations, Merrill!!! We will be sending you an email with the details in case you don’t make it here today. We realize it is New Year’s Eve and everything. ;-)

We would like to thank everyone who participated. We would also invite others to make the small investment in this entertainment opportunity. We promise that it will be worth it. We’ve gotten a few remarks from some readers that we’ve been a little too heavy handed with solicitations. I’ve thought a lot about that. This is a quality, family-friendly site. A LOT of time, research, prorgramming, effort and just plain pride is put into it. Yes, Beach and Train take pride in this site and try to make it the best site they can. A lot of people shell out $10 -$15 -$25 bucks A MONTH for some gaming sites, MP3 sites, porn, dating sites, shopping sites or who knows what else?We ask $12 a YEAR. Why is it so much to ask for us to cover our expenses to bring you quality information, news, builder interviews, photos and soon videos? I don’t think that is too much to ask at all.

Some Pictures From Dawson and Comments From DrummerBoy

December 30, 2006

It’s so great when family members make us proud by displaying their talents. And we do have so many talented brothers and sisters! Dawson took some truly impressive photos at Sturgis this year and was nice enough to display them on the forum. Although the traffic is picking up over there, we thought we would also show them off here so that more of you would get a chance to take a look at them. They really are worth the look. Hopefully we will be able to see more of his stuff soon. He has a great eye. All the thumbnails can be clicked on for greater detail.

BettieBike Rick Fairless’ favorite bike, “The Bettie” named for 1950’s era model Bettie Page (betcha thought I didn’t know that, huh? ;-))

Janis The Janis Bike, one of my favorites. Janis Joplin was a song bird too beautiful to stay on this earth for very long. She was taken from us before we got to experience all she had to give us. But, Rick helped to immortalize her beauty with this chrome and psychedelic high gloss tribute.

Janis2 Another shot of the Janis.

Here is what DrummerBoy had to say about Dawson’s photos.

Great Pictures! How can you not love Rick Fairless’s Style?.. He’s got the same style he’s always had but he’s always bringing a new twist to it,

I Really dig “Bettie” Its such a unique design, It stays along Rick’s main Tie-Dye look (Theres no way you could confuse that with anyone else’s bikes) but brings a unique twist to it, I Really really love this bike, Its very different and thats what we need, Instead of building the same old shaped gas tank or the same old smooth long frame why not do something different, variety is the key, I Love seeing builders come out of their comfort zone and have people saying “Wow thats unique for this builder!” Its all about the WOW factor as Dave Perewitz said they’re gonna get a wow either way its gonna be “Wow thats ugly!” Or “Wow thats beautiful!” It was a wow for me for sure when i saw “Bettie” Such a unique design,

Innovation is what this industry needs, I Wanna see things ive never seen before, Theres so many different builders out there but it seems like none of them want to venture out of their comfort zone and build something that they’ve never built before,

Personally I’d love to see some more Vincent’s built by today’s builders, Ive only seen 2 so far One of course from Matt Hotch and another from Vince Doll at Redneck Engineering.

We would love to have more contributions like this from all of you and have TheBeachCruiser become a true collaborative online community. We would also love to showcase art from new, up and coming photographers, writers, builders, models, designers, and other creative types. Just because you don’t have a portfolio or a resume full of stuff doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t make the cut. If you’re good and you know it, send an email to train@thebeachcruiser.com. She’ll take a look at what you’ve got and get back to you. You may just have your work featured on the front page very soon!

The Beachcruiser 2006-Review

December 30, 2006

Hey,

It’s just about the end of 2006 and I have been thinking about the year in the rear view mirror. It’s been a very busy year, a very exciting year and it has pretty much just flown by.

Train and I started this website in mid April. It started out as just a place for a few people to meet and exchange thoughts and ideas about the motorcycle industry and the people who make it happen. We started it because we couldn’t find anyplace that provided us with the kind of experience we wanted.Yes, there were a number of motorcycle websites but none that in our mind offered what we wanted. We are devout motorcycle enthusiasts and we loved the idea of meeting people like us.We are not 1%ers but I have been riding since the late sixties.I had gone through the ups and downs of the industry.I had experienced the life as I knew it and I was missing it.I missed the brotherhood and sisterhood the most and the friendships I had known. It just wasn’t the same.Motorcycles for me, was a lifestyle. There was a band of brothers and sisters who were different in a lot of ways but had one thing in common. The one thing was a passion for motorcycles. You rode with people, laughed with people, shared together, ate together, partied together and you could count on most to “get your back”.This was a golden time, a special time, a time full of friends.

All of this changed for me later as I had to work,I had a family, and the life I loved just kind of drifted away. I found myself mostly amongst strangers with very little in common.I got caught up in “Making it” but I forgot what “making it” really meant.I had found some success but,I was lonely for what I remembered.

I really started thinking about it some 10 yrs. ago and started to move closer to the place I wanted to be.The world of motorcycles had picked up and I was even more aware of what I was missing.I started reading everything again and riding when I got the chance. Then, around 2000 the motorcycle shows were just beginning.I met the Train and I was smitten.Train loved motorcycles which made it easy to indulge in my passion.I was divorced in 98 so, I was beginning my life again.I bought a Harley and it was great. It made me feel alive again. The rest just seemed to happen by itself.I started to want to make friends in the industry and friends who shared my passion. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be.The internet was just really starting and I was always searching for a way to get back into it.I found a number of places to go to but, I was always left frustrated, insulted, bored, or just plain angry.I didn’t like be put down, cursed at, arguing and defending myself against attempts at intimidation.I had my thoughts and ideas as do many.I thought it would be great to share that with a bunch of people.Well, that was hard if not impossible to do.I would say that out of every 10 people, there were very few that I respected or could ever imagine calling friend. There was a lot to talk about as the t.v. shows took off, the technology took off, the industry took off, more events started and some amazing new people and companies began. There were also the men and women who had spent the last 30 yrs. or so in the industry many of whom I respected and I wanted to catch up.I did meet some cool people and that was great.I still know a lot of them and many are part of the beachcruiser family.I am most grateful for that.

So, me and Train started a little adventure to see what we could do.I had lived in Arizona,North Carolina, and Georgia. I love the west and had wanted to go back but, I ended up here.We started the beachcruiser for fun and from nothing.I mean nothing.Train knows technology and I can write a little so, off we went.Well, one thing led to another and after a couple of months we found that a lot of people seemed to want the same things we did.We started out with just a couple of hundred people and in a pretty short time we had 25,000 30,000 people a month visiting with us.We began to realize that this was more than just a small blog.It was a destination for many just like us.We began to spruce up our content and began to get noticed. It was crazy. We had people we never met writing to tell us what a great site we had.We were working 12-14 hrs. a day to search for everything we thought would be of interest to our family. We call it a family because that’s what it is.Our readership was doubling and tripling every month so, it inspired us to work harder.I don’t know how we got here really but, here we are.

I met Rick Fairless about a year ago.I wrote to him to say we were enjoying his show Texas Hardtails. He wrote back the same day and told us he really enjoyed our website. He said he was checking it out everyday and that he hardly ever did that before. He said he thought we were good for the industry and that he enjoyed our slant on things. He said we portrayed the people in a personal way, a different way and that he really liked that.We have become good friends and when we decided to open our new venture” The Family Jewels” we wanted Rick as a partner.I had learned to respect Rick from the very beginning because of his caring, his passion, his sincerity, and his love of the industry. He is the real deal so, we asked him to partner up with us and he accepted.I knew from the get go that he was the right guy and he has proven me right in spades. We have a team that works both figuratively and in sweat labor. We are all determined to bring the very best to the industry in product, content, and delivery. The Family Jewels is only a couple of months old and we have already done 8 great interviews, several articles, photos, and we have much more planned. We are starting to do video which is exciting. Some people don’t like that we charge $12 a year for The Jewels but, it is a premium part of this website and would be cheap at 5 times that much.I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t believe it.If you broke it down to an hourly wage we’re working for less than a few cents an hour. The money by the way goes for expenses. It doesn’t come close to covering them but, every little bit helps. We are growing there as well and we appreciate everyone who has joined. We’re going to cover events, and continue to add to the library of interviews so, it is going to be amazing.

It makes us very proud to recieve positive comments from those outside and inside the industry. We have a sampling of them on the home page and each is totally unsolicited.I mean when Roger Goldammer,Jody Perewitz, Scott Long,Rick Fairless, Doug Keim,Scout from Baker Drive Train, Jason Hart and many others write to compliment you, it’s a big deal. When Big Dog, Advanced Chrome Plating, and Strokers sponsor you it is a big compliment. We only started taking sponsors about 6 weeks ago and there is a lot of interest.

We are also very grateful and humbled when Matt Hotch, Hank Young, Kim Suter, Eddie Trotta, Roger Goldammer, Dave Perwitz, Rick Fairless and Jason Hart take the time to sit down and share themselves with us and our family. They have all been totally open and we think our family will know them as never before.I know I do.That’s eight of the very best in two months. It’s just the beginning.

Well, it’s about to be 2007 and I have a little time to reflect on the past as well as think about the future. The Beachcruiser is a player in the industry and we plan on getting better and better through hard work, innovation, expanded content, and ever better delivery. We have a lot of friends who want to take the trip with us and there is no limit to how good this experiment will become.Train, Rick, and myself are always thinking  more and better and we are committed to just that. All of our friends have offered to help get us there. It’s a dream come true for me as I am getting another chance to be with the people I respect and feel comfortable with.I am very lucky to have the opportunity and I am not going to let my friends, our members, or the industry down.

You can count on that as all I have talked about has actually taken place in only 8 1/2 months.I can’t even imagine what a full year will bring.I am pumped and invigorated although, I do get a little tired now and then. We’re on a mission so please take the ride with us. We appreciate each and every one of you and we mean it.Write to us, talk to us, tell us what you think, what you want to know, what you would like to see and we will do everything we can to give it to you.

CJ of Guilty Customs, BikersWeb, T-Shirt of The Month and More

December 29, 2006

I had a great talk today with CJ of Guilty Customs. We talked about a little bit of everything from DisneyWorld to the motorcycle industry and everything in between. CJ is one really terrific guy. Please look him up if you ever are in the market for a bike or parts — or just a really cool t-shirt.

This brings me to the next topic. We will be launching The Official BeachCruiser T-Shirt Of The Month Club starting bright and early Monday morning. So, all you people who partied too hard ringing in the New Year better bribe somebody else to sign you up. It’s really simple and absolutely free. There will be a special form for you to fill in your name and email address. That’s it. Then, once a month, we will be having a drawing to give away a t-shirt from a different builder or motorcycle industry business. Each month will be different. You can enter as many times as you want, but only once for each email address. And, we can check for duplicates so no cheating. It’s just a way to say thanks for being a part of The BeachCruiser Family. We truly do appreciate your support. You make it all worth it for us.

While CJ and I were talking, we mentioned a cool UK site, Bikers Web. This site has been around for quite awhile and is impressively comprehensive. I’m going to feature a couple of things from them over the next couple of days so that you can see what they are all about. We have a fair amount of visitors from the UK so please tell us what you would like to see more of! We want to know what you want.

This piece is about a contest for the Bennetts Babes Squad and model Daniel Lloyd. You can find the article here. The article and picture are copyrighted to the publication and reproduced here for your information and entertainment only.

The Dave Perewitz Interview Is Up!!!

December 28, 2006

Hey,

I just listened to my interview with Dave Perewitz and if I do say so myself, it’s great.Dave is great!!! You can learn who Dave is and what makes him go.You can listen to a man who is one of the very few legends in the motorcycle industry. I was struck by how nice Dave is, how open he is, how knowledgable he is and how much he loves what he does.We talk about everything including the many celebrities Dave has built bikes for, the new t.v. show he is about to appear in, the industry, Billy Lane, it was just a great time.

I am constantly amazed at the quality of people in the industry.I am always talking about brothers and sisters and these people are just what I have in mind.It always lifts me when I do an interview and I always end up wishing I was closer so I could hang out with these folks. They are incredibly talented, incredibly nice, and incredibly down to earth.I feel energized each time and my faith in good people is always hightened.I consider each and every one so far to be someone I want to be friends with.I am very particular about who I call friend because it means a lot to me.It’s great to know these guys and gals are out there. The opportunity to know them is in and of itself why all the hard work of running the beachcruiser is so worth it.

I also want to thank Susan Perewitz and Jody Perewitz for helping me get Dave to take the time to speak with me.This is a great family, some of the royalty in the industry.

The interview is on The Family Jewels. It’s our seventh and each one gets better. If you want to hear about these people in their own words it’s there. You decide whether it’s worth it. Our members already know.
