Some Pictures From Dawson and Comments From DrummerBoy

December 30, 2006

It’s so great when family members make us proud by displaying their talents. And we do have so many talented brothers and sisters! Dawson took some truly impressive photos at Sturgis this year and was nice enough to display them on the forum. Although the traffic is picking up over there, we thought we would also show them off here so that more of you would get a chance to take a look at them. They really are worth the look. Hopefully we will be able to see more of his stuff soon. He has a great eye. All the thumbnails can be clicked on for greater detail.

JasonHart This is Jason Hart’s bike.

HartKlock Here is the Hart/Klock Build Off Display.

RussellMitchell Russell Mitchell in the crowd.

RussellMitchell2 Great shot of Russell riding.

LichterFairless Mr. Fairless with photographer Michael Lichter.

BettieBike Rick Fairless’ favorite bike, “The Bettie” named for 1950’s era model Bettie Page (betcha thought I didn’t know that, huh? ;-))

Janis The Janis Bike, one of my favorites. Janis Joplin was a song bird too beautiful to stay on this earth for very long. She was taken from us before we got to experience all she had to give us. But, Rick helped to immortalize her beauty with this chrome and psychedelic high gloss tribute.

Janis2 Another shot of the Janis.

Here is what DrummerBoy had to say about Dawson’s photos.

Great Pictures! How can you not love Rick Fairless’s Style?.. He’s got the same style he’s always had but he’s always bringing a new twist to it,

I Really dig “Bettie” Its such a unique design, It stays along Rick’s main Tie-Dye look (Theres no way you could confuse that with anyone else’s bikes) but brings a unique twist to it, I Really really love this bike, Its very different and thats what we need, Instead of building the same old shaped gas tank or the same old smooth long frame why not do something different, variety is the key, I Love seeing builders come out of their comfort zone and have people saying “Wow thats unique for this builder!” Its all about the WOW factor as Dave Perewitz said they’re gonna get a wow either way its gonna be “Wow thats ugly!” Or “Wow thats beautiful!” It was a wow for me for sure when i saw “Bettie” Such a unique design,

Innovation is what this industry needs, I Wanna see things ive never seen before, Theres so many different builders out there but it seems like none of them want to venture out of their comfort zone and build something that they’ve never built before,

Personally I’d love to see some more Vincent’s built by today’s builders, Ive only seen 2 so far One of course from Matt Hotch and another from Vince Doll at Redneck Engineering.

We would love to have more contributions like this from all of you and have TheBeachCruiser become a true collaborative online community. We would also love to showcase art from new, up and coming photographers, writers, builders, models, designers, and other creative types. Just because you don’t have a portfolio or a resume full of stuff doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t make the cut. If you’re good and you know it, send an email to train@thebeachcruiser.com. She’ll take a look at what you’ve got and get back to you. You may just have your work featured on the front page very soon!
