Planes,Trains,Automobiles,Teleportation

Hey,

Train and I are home. We had a great time on “the Cape”. The Perewitz fall foliage run was a success and we got to meet a lot of  super people. Susan Perewitz(Dave’s better half) is an amazing woman!! She is very cool and just lights up any room she is in. I always feel great when I see Susan because she always has a big smile and a hug. The weekend charity event is NOT an easy thing to pull off and Susan is everywhere. She is cooking, greeting, helping out with everything and most of all,she is being Susan. Dave and Susan open up their home to over 200 people not just on Friday night but again on Sunday. You must remember the guests are mostly Hamsters, other bikers, neighbors and friends. We eat a lot, drink a little and make a little noise. It’s a lot of work for the family and everyone who supports the event.Imagine a full three days of people partying in and around your home. There was a ride on Saturday and then the lobster, barbeque and chicken dinner Saturday night. There was a silent auction on Friday and train and me were high bid on a hand made vase. All the proceeds go to M.S. which is the charity for this event. There was the live auction on Saturday night with the “King of Flames” as the M.C. I understand that Dave is the M.C. at all of the Hamster events. He really can run an auction and lots of money was raised. It does a person proud to see people bidding up everything to inflated prices just to help the needy. The Hamsters are a great bunch and they really support one another. There were a few items that were for Hamsters only which we could not bid on because we do not wear the yellow. There were items hand painted by Dave which were very cool, there was a shirt signed by Rick Fairless,a pair of yellow converse all star sneakers, there was a jacket and hat from Arlen Ness, there was an origional ” David Mann framed lithograph, foot and hand pegs from Scott Webster( Leroy Thompson) and many more cool items donated for the auction.

On Sunday there was a poker run to Provincetown Rhode Island and then another event ending party at the Perewitz house. There were some very amazing motorcycles to oogle and I got a real bath from “Zippy” the dog. He is amazing. He loves to play, is very affectionate, a real charmer.

The people were the best part of the event. We saw Donnie Smith, Scott Webster,The Perewitz family and a few other folks we already knew. We met many more people we had never met before. People came from Arkansas, Canada, San Diego, Atlanta, all over the country to honor the Perewitz family and to support their effort.I had a long chat with Joe”Pro”. Joe is a long time friend of the P’s and has purchased 15 motorcycles from Dave over the years. He is a teriffic guy and a serious cancer survivor. He told me that when he had to have brain surgery how supportive Dave and his fellow Hamsters were. He said he was flooded with phone calls and flowers and love from all his Hamster brothers and how much that helped him through a very scary time and boosted his effort to recover. That folks, is a real life story of what the biker community is all about and the kind of people that call themselves “Hamsters”.We were struck by how friendly everyone was.We feel lucky to have experienced the event.Jody and Kory Perewitz are also great people and our hats off to Donna Tocci for all her good work.

  O.K.,

It’s not all gooey and fun. Traveling was almost intolerable as has been the case for me and Train lately. We made our plane to Providence R.I. by literally two minutes!! We left three hours before take off and because of construction were stressed out all the way. We didn’t know about the construction. We rushed to get on a plane that looked like and felt like it was going to fall apart. No chance to relax on this bucket of bolts and we finally arrived in Providence in the late afternoon. Then it was another 3 hours to get our car and drive to the “Cape” where everything was happening. We were told it was anywhere from 1hr 15 mins to 2 1/2 hrs. Well, suffice it to say it took us almost 10 hrs. to get to our destination and then there was nowhere to get a solid meal. That my friends, is a LONG DAY!!!

We were supposed to leave on monday in the early afternoon. Well, we got to the airport 3 hrs. early again. We went through security( which is always a lot of fun) and then to our gate. When we got there we found that the flight was CANCELLED. Yep, they said nothing when we checked in only about 30 mins earlier. We had to find out where to go and ended up at a La Quinta Inn which was under repair, had no restaurant,no online access, was in a bad part of town and had to spend the night there. We were given $7 food money which obviously is enough for a couple of beers and nowhere to eat.The airline starts with a D and ends with an A. Train is going to say hi, tomorrow and share our feelings.. The next flight to Atlanta was 12:30 p.m. today. We got there went through all the same crap, got to the gate and it said the flight was delayed. To make a long story shorter we got home at 9: p.m. Our return adventure took 32 hrs. Train and I had a similiar experience returning from Sturgis so, in six weeks we traveled twice and had to stay over twice.

We are sticking close to home for awhile and I am investing in teleportation. This flying crap and driving crap is just beyond belief. We already live in the foothills. Where the hell are we supposed to go next? It’s a work in progress.

We are sorry for the lack of news but between hell and the lack of an internet connection there wasn’t much we could do about it. We realize there are a couple of technical glitches, we have some emails to respond to and some stuff to post from Doug Keim, Sam Herron(the garage goon) and others who were kind enough to send us some of their work.Train held it together again!! I couldn’t do it without her.

    Beach and Train:
Sorry to hear about even more travel woes! That’s stinky.
But, it was great to meet you both. Glad you could make it and that you both had a good time.
I agree….the Perewitz folks are a wonderfully generous family…and, of course, a bunch of fun to be around.
    Take care…

    Hey Donna,
It was great to meet you too. You were working so hard it was tough to talk for long.We hope to meet up again soon. I wish I won that lock at the silent auction. I never saw anything so solid. It would make a custom bike owner(any bike owner) feel secure that their ride was safe.
You did a great job at the event!!! We appreciate your effort as I am sure the P’s do as well.
    Later
