World’s most exotic January motorcycle sale…

December 29, 2007

Well, our “Golden Boy” is at it again. And Roger Goldammer really means it when he says he has every bike he’s built over the past five years in his possession. He told us, “they’re like my children… once I build them I just can’t find it in my heart to let them go”

But here are two of Roger’s “kids” that he’s having to kick out of the nest. Hey, we all have bills to pay, right?

GoldammerExperimental

Forget cut-price M&S underpants and cheap microwaves, check out these stunning specials about to be off-loaded by the world’s top custom motorcycle builders.

Roger Goldammer’s stunning Nortorious supercharged single café racer and the Experimental two-stroke 250 broke from endless, monotonous stream of American v-twin choppers by using engines you’d never dream of.

The Nortorious used half of a Harley-style air-cooled twin to create a 965cc single. Just to make the one-off motor more interesting, a supercharger was piggy-backed onto cylinder to give the bike 80bhp. The mental motor was then shoe-horned into a frame design based around a 50 year-old Norton, complete with drum brakes!

The Experimental is an earlier Goldammer project, and uses less one-off parts, but the result was just as outstanding. A modified Honda CR250R frame holds a BRC two-stroke parallel twin go-kart engine. The geometry is long and low, with minimalist and unique bodywork. The finished bike was later timed at the Bonneville Salt Flats, reaching an impressive 128mph!

Roger Goldammer told MCN: “I’m selling them because, well, I have in my possession every bike I have built over the last five years… and too many bills!”
Nortorious is on sale for £80,000, and Experimental is on sale with an asking price of £73,438.

For George Berge the phone call couldn’t have come at a better time. Almost two years into his retirement, Berge was becoming way too familiar with the honey-do list.

The home improvement project list was shrinking and Berge was getting cabin fever.

Big Bear Choppers contacted Berge in late October about testing a new fuel injection system on its bikes. Berge owns a Big Bear Choppers motorcycle and has been a fan of the brand since 2004.

Ryan Burres, assembly manager at Big Bear Choppers, said the company never used test riders before November. “I used to test the bike,” he said. But Big Bear Choppers needed more information on its motorcycles, and that meant riding the bikes for more miles and doing some scientific research.

Now three test riders, including Berge, drive at least 1,000 miles each week. The riders log in where they have driven and each time they stop for gas. Berge is testing the Pro-Street Sled.

“We ask them to look for anomalies while they ride,” Burres said. Loose drive chains, nuts and bolts are often what test riders find wrong on their rides, Burres said. “We are trying to break the bike before our customers break them,” he said.

Testing for the quality of the ride is one thing, but tuning a fuel injection system takes more than rider input. Big Bear Choppers is switching from carburetors to fuel injectors. “Fuel injectors give more consistent performance. Carburetors need to be tuned for certain altitudes. If you tune the carburetor for Big Bear, it won’t work as well at sea-level or at the beach,” Burres said.

An on-board computer tattles on the test riders. “We know what speed they drove and at what rpm’s they drove,” Burres said. The computer information is downloaded from the motorcycle to the assembly computer. The information allows Big Bear Choppers to see whether the fuel injection system is performing as expected, he said.

Berge said he doesn’t have many problems with the motorcycle he is testing. The on-board computer handles most of the data collection needed on the bike. So Berge gets time to play. “I take the bike to Havasu some weekends and to the beach others,” Berge said. He gets paid to test the bikes, but said he would do it even if there was no money involved. “I believe in the brand so strongly,” Berge said about Big Bear Choppers.

Berge brings his wife along for some of the test rides. She follows on her own Big Bear Chopper bike, Berge said. The couple chews up miles of road on their trips and Berge said it beats the honey-do list.

Train Wreck-Christmas?

December 28, 2007

Hey,

You know how everyone looks forward to this time of year? Well, for us, there’s not a lot of down time. Train and I had so much to do that she finally had to give it a rest. She cooked a lot for her family, shopped for gifts for them and others, went pretty much non-stop for a week and finally had to take a little break.Train is kind of like the Perewitz’ Zipp. She keeps on going at 120 m.p.h. and finally just crashes. When all the Christmas stuff was over she wrecked. Not to worry, she is resting to restore all of the spent energy. She will be back very soon with some more goodies for all of us.

I am still upright and plugging away. I run at a slower pace although, this time of year exhausts me too. I am quite sure that many of you are experiencing something similar. We all need a vacation after the holiday. I am looking forward to Cincinnati just to get away for a few days.

We hope Santa brought all of you what you hoped fo. This is a little bit of a down time in the industry but, there is news and we are patiently waiting to hear what’s next in the Billy Lane story. The trial is scheduled for early January last we heard. There has been absolutely NO NEWS for over a month but that has to change one way or another. We’re on it!!

Quick Update and More Holiday Wishes

December 23, 2007

Hi everybody! This is Train with a quick Happy Holidays wish for all of you. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve got lots of goodies planned for you next week. I’ve just been up to my butt in alligators with the holiday preparations and have not had any spare time for web work.

We have lots of great pictures to show you, some holiday cards from our friends and sponsors, some up to the minute news from around the world and more. It’s just going to have to wait a wee little bit.

Our policy is not to let a day pass without posting, so I wanted to hold fast to that. We are very much committed to bringing our family the very best in motorcycle industry news.

Tonight we hope everyone is safe and at home with their families. We hope that, if you have young children somewhere in your lives (kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, your friends’ kids) that you you are catching some of their excitement. It always brings back the magic of this time of year to see that gleam of anticipation and merriment in their young, innocent eyes. We hope that if you are blessed to have a partner in your life that you take a moment to remind him or her how much you love them. You can never do that often enough.

We also hope that you can look back over this year and reflect on the events with gratitude. Whether the times were “good” or “bad” doesn’t matter as much as what you learned from them. You can choose to make 2008 even better than this year. It’s in your power and in your reach. You just have to set your mind to it.

We would like to send a special thank you to the men and women defending our country. We thank you for your contribution from the bottoms of our hearts. Even though you must spend this holiday away from your families, in a foreign, hostile place, without any of the familiar things that make this time of year dear to you… Please know that your sacrifices are not in vain. You are our heroes and we applaud you for your valor, courage and patriotism.

Well, that’s all for now. Sleep well tonight and know that The BeachCruiser family sends our all of our love and compassion to each and every one of you. We hope we make your lives a little bit better by being a part of it.

Peace, Love and Joy!

S&S ANNOUNCES NEW SEALED AIR-CLEANER KIT

December 21, 2007

SS  SS50

LA CROSSE, WI (December 20, 2007) S&S® Cycle will be releasing its new sealed air-cleaner kit for carbureted engines in January of 2008. The new S&S sealed air-cleaner was developed to replace the S&S carbon air filter for 2008 model year California carbureted engines, meet the evaporative hydrocarbon emission levels mandated by the ARB, and maintain the same level of engine performance that customers have come to expect from S&S.

S&S expects to receive its executive orders (EO) on the air-cleaner system by March 2008.  The air-cleaner (S&S part number 106-1449) will be approved for use on emission certified S&S engines using the E and G carburetors in the state of California.

 AirCleaner

“This product is an important one for S&S,” said Michael Scaletta, Director of Business Development.  “It will allow S&S to sell compliant carbureted engines for years to come in the state of California,” continued Scaletta.  “The S&S sealed air-cleaner allows for choice; if you desire to run a carburetor, you still can.”

The S&S Sealed Air-Cleaner design utilizes a nickel plated aluminum rotary valve that seals with the black anodized backplate when the engine is switched off. A solenoid actuates the rotary valve when the engine is started and air is allowed to freely flow through matching ports in the backplate. Spring force returns the rotary valve to the closed position when the engine is switched off again.

The new S&S Sealed Air-Cleaner allows S&S to continue selling engines that meet California emission standards to support the custom bike manufacturers. The S&S Sealed Air-Cleaner will be available in January 2008 for manufacturers to use on their emission certified motorcycles.  More information on S&S Emissions Compliant engines and all S&S components can be found at www.sscycle.com
