Big Dog 2009 Wolf preview
February 29, 2008
Big Dog Motorcycles used the annual V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati to provide dealers with a ’sneak peek’ of the first of the new models for its proposed 2009 model range. Big Dog’s Wolf is due for an official release in September of 2008. However, at the time of going to print the final specification has not yet been clarified.
What is known about the bike is that the frame will feature a single downtube fit with a radical swingarm design. The tire sizes will be 130/60R-23 front and 220/50R-20 rear. The narrower rear tire follows a trend which company founder and CEO, Sheldon Coleman, outlined at the company’s recent dealer presentation in California, and which has been set by this year’s Mutt, with its 250-section tire deviating from the company’s more normal fitment of a 300.
Motive power for the Wolf will be provided by an S&S 121ci X-Wedge, with electronic fuel injection, mated to a six-speed BDM Balance-Drive transmission.
The company says an extensive chrome package will be offered as standard and there will also be an optional highly-styled saddlebag.

Boyd Coddington-Tribute
February 29, 2008
Hey,
I wanted to say a little more about Boyd Coddington who passed away yesterday at 63 years of age.
Boyd started playing with cars seriously at 13 yrs. NeitherHe, nor anyone else could possibly imagine where this passion would lead.Boyd operated a gas station in Utah for awhile and later went to work for Disneyland. He worked there during the day and was busy at night working on and building automobiles. He worked on and customized 1932 Fords and fabricated car wheels. He got up to $2000 a wheel which was big money then and not bad even today. He got a following and he was living his dream. He designed and built custom cars and was getting as much as $500,000 for his work at his peak.Hard to imagine people who could afford that but, they are out there.Boyd built “Cadzilla” for Billy Gibson of ZZ Top. The custom was designed around a Cadillac as the name suggests.
Boyd got to t.v. on the Discovery Channel with his show American Hot Rod. I saw the show a number of times. The show was something Boyd loved doing. It is important to note that Boyd also mentored Jesse James and Chip Foose both of whom went on to become stars in their own right.
We will always remember Boyd for his work and for the Hawaian shirts that he wore every day.

Northend Cycle of Beaumont; Where Motorcycles Go to Die
February 24, 2008
Interesting visual… a graveyard for bikes?
>>>>>>>>>
Northend Cycle of Beaumont (http://necycle.com) has entered into a contract with one of the nation’s top insurers of Harley Davidson motorcycles. They will now cover all of Texas (and surrounding areas), picking up dead motorcycles.
Beaumont, TX (PRWEB) February 24, 2008 — For more than 25 years, Northend Cycle of Beaumont (http://necycle.com) has been serving the motorcycle industry faithfully. Now, thanks to a new partnership with one of the nation’s top insurers of Harley Davidson motorcycles, they will be picking up motorcycles that have been declared a total loss, from the entire state of Texas (and surrounding areas).
The move will allow Northend Cycle to provide a larger selection of quality used parts to their customers. Thanks to the power of the Internet, Northend Cycle has gained notoriety as one of the world’s largest salvage companies anywhere. And while a one acre indoor salvage yard would probably provide most companies with a few years worth of parts, things change when your customers come from all parts of the globe.
“Parts come and go quick around here,” said spokesman Billy Travis. “Our partnership with one of the nation’s top insurers of Harley Davidson motorcycles will allow us to cover the entire state of Texas. This means we will have an even larger supply of parts for our customers to look through.”
Once a dead vehicle has been picked up, they will be delivered to Northend Cycle’s facility located at the following address:
Northend Cycle
5560 Hwy. 105
Beaumont, Texas 77708
Soon after the vehicle has been delivered, it will be listed for sale on their Web site www.necycle.com
For more information on Northend Cycle or to purchase complete motorcycles or parts, visit their site or call 1-800-428-7821
About Northend Cycle of Beaumont:
Northend Cycle of Beaumont started out in a home garage in 1979. They have been in business now for over 25 years and are still going strong! They are one of the largest and oldest salvage yards in the U.S. and have worked with companies such as Dairyland, Progressive, Universal Underwriters, Markel American, Foremost, LoneStar, and Colonial. Daytona Bike Week changes traffic flow in Ga.
February 23, 2008
It seems Atlanta will be part of a main route to Daytona next week. Here are some tips for those on four wheels and two. It’s just common sense really. Pay attention. Stay safe. Always be aware of what other drivers are doing. We hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable ride.

Daytona Bike Week changes traffic flow in Ga.
Tips for dealing with the two-wheel travelers
By ARIEL HART
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 02/22/08
If Georgia roads soon run with leather, tattoos and a tad more character than usual, it’s no surprise.
For motorcyclists next week, all roads — including Georgia highways — lead to Daytona Beach, Fla., where about half a million of their colleagues are expected to gather from February 29 to March 9 at Bike Week.
According to Anne Szczesny, a spokeswoman for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, car and truck drivers along those routes should take extra care next week to avoid collisions. Some tips from the company for co-existing with the much smaller and less stable vehicles:
• Know your blind spots and remember motorcycles can get lost in them more easily than cars.
• Drivers should make sure all items they’re hauling are securely fastened and can’t fly onto the road. Those towing boats: take note.
• Leaving enough space between cars is especially important when there are bikers who may need to swerve suddenly around obstacles in the road.
• Be extra careful when turning and at intersections. The insurance company says that, because motorcycles are small, it’s harder to see how close they are and how fast they’re approaching.
And from the Governor’s Office of Highway safety, the three rules for driving without crashing always stand:
• Don’t speed.
• Stay sober.
• Buckle up.
Leroy-Thompson Choppers and ProCharger unveil Trendkill at V-Twin Expo
February 22, 2008
Scott Webster of Leroy-Thompson Choppers and ProCharger collaborated on a brand new bike named Trendkill which was recently unveiled to a packed house at the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati. The motorcycle has a similar look to their Biker Build-Off winner, Ethyl, which also caused a stir when it came on the scene.
Scott Webster, owner of Leroy-Thompson, has a reputation for creating some of the most sleek and unique choppers in the industry, and Trendkill is no exception. The bold design features a Leroy-Thompson custom Ethyl frame, Brembo brakes and Lazer Star lights, along with a 124” ProCharged S&S motor that produces 180 hp. “Trendkill is going to take the market by storm. I’m psyched that we got ProCharger involved and the result is another great bike that we are proud to have the Leroy-Thompson name on,” Webster said.
The never before seen Trendkill unveiling was a critically acclaimed event at the Expo.
Walt Sipp, V-Twin Product Manager of ProCharger said, “We previously worked with Scott on a Bagger project so our expectations were very high, I have to say the results turned out even better than I expected with the Trendkill.”
ProCharger Super Chargers increase the percentage of horsepower your engine produces, adding to the overall performance of the engine. They are located at 14801 W. 114th Terrace, Lenexa, KS 66215, and can be reached Mon-Fri 9a-5p Central at 913.338.2886, or anytime online at www.procharger.com.
Leroy-Thompson Choppers is the brainchild of Scott Webster and is located just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. Leroy-Thompson Choppers specializes in handcrafted motorcycles and custom parts, and has been featured in the book The Art of the Bobber, as well as magazines such as Barnett’s, Cycle Source, Freeway, Hot Bike, Hot Rod’s Bike Works, IronWorks, Street Chopper, The Horse Backstreet Choppers, WILD, and most recently on an upcoming episode of The Biker Build-Off on the The Learning Channel, check your local listings.
