Warm, Fuzzy, Feeling

March 31, 2008

Hey,

I have to tell you. We got an email from Jody Perewitz which is just what we needed right now.Jody is the daughter of Dave and Susan Perewitz and a very skilled motorcycle designer and builder in her own right. She and Sara Liberte are fast friends and they do so much for the industry and for charity. Jody also is a major player in Dave’s business. We saw the family in Massachussets and got to experience first hand the great part of this industry. We think so highly of all of the Perwitz’ that we had to go to support them and their charity. It wasn’t just us by any means. There were many Hamsters and other folks who flew in from all over the country to support Muscular Distrophy and show their support for the incredible effort the P’s make each year.We are not Hamsters but we met some incredible people. It was fun and heart warming to experience the feelings that all of the folks have for one another.Susan even cooks her famous soup and the family puts in an enormous amount of time and effort to do this good deed.Train and myself talked a lot about how THIS is really why we love the motorcycle community and why supporting people like this is an important thing.

The Perewitz family would do fine without us but for all these years and all the dreams I had a younger man this is what I wanted to be a part of. I have been riding since 1967 and growing up a lot of my friends were bikers then. It was different. There were no magazines, no t.v., no shows, just people with the same passion who took you in just because that was the code.It was like playing football(which I did in h.s. and college) in that you felt like you were part of something bigger, something that you could count on, somewhere to go and know that you were welcome. It was brotherhood at it’s highest level. It is something I was never able to recapture in my life as I wasn’t a builder and I had to make a living for myself and later my family.I never however, forgot my dream.

I finally got to a point where I could indulge in my passion so along with Train we began The Beachcruiser. We wanted to be part of something bigger than us where we could look someone in the eye and know who they were. Well, we have met some amazing people and we have given our best shot to support them and the industry. There have been some disappintments along the way but when you get to spend a little time with Dave and Jody and Susan and Donnie and a bunch of folks who are the real deal the negative part seems much smaller. I mean there must have been a couple of hundred people who made that trip( a guess) and they had fun, kept bidding up the things at auction, and just celebrating life.M.S. got a nice check and we left feeling renewed. What more can you ask for?

I was particulary touched by Jody writing today because we needed it and she knew. She took the time to say hi.It really made a difference. It was a special thing to do from a special person. No one in my opinion has the skills of a Dave Perewitz and a Donnie Smith and an Arlen Ness, a Roger Goldammer, a Matt Hotch, an Eddie Trotta,a Doug Keim, a Bert Baker, a Kendall Johnson etc. These are special people with special gifts and they don’t come along that often. There is always the next generation with people like Scott Webster and others who possess all of these possibilities.Right now however, htese people along with Hank Young and Cory Ness and a few others are the best we got.Cory of course has a son( Zach) who is already well on his way.

We, unlike some don’t think you have to be a great builder to epitomize all that is good in the industry. There are others that work long hours doing what they do best in different areas that just as much a part of it as anyone else.Darcy Betlach comes to mind, Barb Elmore comes to mind, and there are many others. Some people think that if you don’t build you are subhuman, unworthy, not entitled to an opinion. I don’t think so and I will always stand up for the ideals and people like these.Me and Train, we’re going to support our friends because for every bad experience there is Jody, a Barb, a Donnie, an Arlen, and all the others to remind us we are not alone.

Donnie Smith Bike Show

March 31, 2008

Hey,

We got an email from Mr. Motorcycle telling us about the Donnie Smith Bike Show. He said he had a great time and had the thrill of meeting Donnie and Dave Perewitz in person. He was very pleased that both guys took a photo with him. He said Dave was an icon of his. Mr. Motorcycle does custom paint himself and said that Dave was inspirational. He also said that when he went to school to study painting John Kosmoski the industry famous painter and owner of House Of Color had a big impact on him. He took photos at the show and has offered to share them with us.Mr. Motorcycle is a good guy and a new friend of this website. He has recently started a website of his own.

I saw Dave and Donnie at Dave’s Fall Foliage Run and Dave always attends Donnie’s show. When you seem them you can feel the friendship they have for each other. Both men support the industry with their charity and each goes to a lot of events every year.I am always amazed that they fit so much into their schedules as they are both very in demand custom builders with shops of their own.We have a special feeling for the Perewitz family and Donnie has always been great to me.The way these guys are with each other, the way they support each other is the best part of business. They are both founders of The Hamsters along with Susan Perewitz and of course Arlen. The Ness’s started their own show a couple of years ago and I am pretty sure all the guys got together there too. We know Dave has been a mentor and friend to up and coming builder Scott Webster and we saw that again in Cincinnati. Scott traveled to support Dave at his charity event and came all the way from Ohio to the Cape.It makes me feel proud the way these guys are there for each other and I wanted to make a point of it.

We’ll get those pictures from Mr. Motorcycle and share them with all of you.

Crowd rolls in for Bike Show

March 31, 2008

Evening Sun Reporter
Article Launched: 03/30/2008 04:05:58 AM EDT

Bikers, bike enthusiast and riders of all ages lined up from entrance to exit Saturday at the AllStar Events Complex on Emmitsburg Road, Gettysburg, for the first-time Gettysburg Bike Show and Expo.

People from all around the East Coast were there to see more than 70 vendors of custom-made motorcycles, custom air-brush painting, leather clothing, jewelry and other various biker goods.

Bob Farrell Sr., of Stewartstown, a member of the event staff, said American and Metric bikes from 1955 through 2008 were showcased.

“We have a bike from each decade,” he said.

Metric bikes are those made outside of the U.S.

Bikes shown were judged by Farrell, Doug Keim of Creative Cycles, and Dave Isaacson.

The categories were: judge’s choice; custom touring; radical custom; mild custom (Metric and American); best paint; best hand-crafted parts; best rigid; best swing arm; three-wheeler and antique.

Keim was there to promote his “very hands-on” shop, he said.

His store has been doing custom bikes and parts for 30 years.

All merchandise made is by hand. Nothing is mass produced, he said.

Recently, he has been filming a television show called “Creative Cycles TV,” found on his Web site, www.creativecycles .com. It is “showing the real reality of being a bike shop owner,” he said.

Although the company is known across the world, he said he likes to keep his shop personally run.

“I want to get to know my customers, shake their hands, have

them ask me questions about their bikes,” Keim said.

A blue “Zombie Girls” airbrushed 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa, was showcased to show technique and texture. The bike was, at one time, the fastest in the U.S., Farrell said.

His bike, a red Harley-Davidson Road King, Fire Fighter Memorial Edition, was showcased outside the Expo. The bike is a way to remember all the firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The bike was sold exclusively to firefighters, of which he was one for more than 30 years for the Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire and Emergency Services in Maryland.

All 343 firefighters who died are memorialized on the bike.

Owner of Aggressive Paint Works, Freehold, N.J., Chip - “Like paint chip,” he joked - Bruzzese, was showing off his custom airbrushed artwork.

He said he will do any type of art, but mainly people come to him for “sick art.”

On his company Web site, www.apwpaint.com, he has showcased art from barbed wire, to scantily-dressed women, to skulls and flames.

“We’re just trying to be the baddest art (for motorcycles) out there,” Bruzzese said.

A 60-year-old man who identified himself as “Butcher,” of Columbia, Pa., said he goes to bike shows all over, averaging five a year.

“This is great for a first-timer,” he said.

Butcher does tattoos for Midnite Rider Tattoos and professional body piercing in Columbia, and has been riding since he was 15, he said.

He said he was there to browse around and see what the show had to offer.

The Expo also had food.

Bob “FattBob” Bearns was selling alligator, beef, buffalo, elk and turkey jerky. He said his Jerky Hut Products are always a big hit with bikers during Gettysburg Bike Week held in the summer and was delighted to come to the show.

He sells hot, mild, sweet, teryaki and cured jerky.

His hottest jerky is Chernobyl, which boasts the eater will experience “The Total Meltdown.”

Michael Trageser, 34, Gettysburg, came to the event to compare it to other ones he has been to.

“I’ve been to Ocean City, York, Gettysburg, Chambersburg … almost anywhere,” he said.

A rider for eight years, Trageser said the turnout for the first-time event was good.

“It’s better than I thought it would be,” he said in relation to vendors and people there.

The event was sponsored by Battlefield Harley-Davidson, Budweiser and Bud Light.

No Choice

March 30, 2008

Hey,

This is my last post on this matter and I wish I didn’t have to make it. Huze sent me some of what he has posted about us on his website. You can judge the motives and validity of what he says.

(1) What I said was that each or our sponsors banners have been hit over 17,000 times as of last night. I did not say we whatever Mr. Huze is “quoting” This is information that is tabulated by webalizer and, if you go to the map which is powered by Google it shows where people are visiting this website from around the world. We don’t have any input into any of this. When we used Alexa Mr. Huze said that that system was flawed and now he quotes numbers from that site for his own purpose. Interesting.

We posted our gross stats for the past 12 months in hope that all would see that they are as real as they are reported to us. Mr. Huze attacks the 75,000 visitors we sais we had a couple of months ago and there it is for all to see. We don’t have any obligation to post them but in the name of simply telling the truth we felt we would.Mr Huze says our numbers are going down each month. As you can see that is not true. February was a short month but we have averaged over the 75,000 we have claimed for three months running.

Mr Huze is spending an awful lot of time blasting and slandering us and you can be the judge of why?We have decided to ignore him and slander and do what we always do. We will try and bring you the best we got.

In conclusion, all methods of gathering data are not 100% accurate. My lord if the internet was perfect there would be no hackers, no viruses, no problems. We were hacked last year and that is when things went askew for us. We didn’t feel alexa was accurate anymore so, we switched tools. If you read what we posted about a number of seo pros had to say about Alexa then you can see that that system is flawed as well. You could spend a ton of money getting pricy software I suppose but we don’t make any money doing this so there is no justifiable reason to do that. We prefer to spend our money on trying to cover events etc and bring you the best we got.

In conclusion, Mr Huze wrote to us and said that a comment we published by “slopoke” was fabricated by us and that it had the same ip address we have. That is just out and out slander. We wrote to slopoke to ask him to confirm that he is the author and he has. We will post his response shortly.

We didn’t get into this to argue and fight with anyone. You can judge yourselves what Mr. Huze’s motives are and what kind of man he is.We run a motorcycle website. We run it to the best of our ability. We run it honestly and dillegently. We are saddened and outraged at the venom Mr. Huze seems to have towards us. In the end, we can’t control what people think or why.We know all we have done to support the industry and the people who make it great. We didn’t see Mr. Huze at the Perewitz charity event last year but we were there. It was an expensive trip to make and we donated to the charity(ms). I don’t know if Mr. Huze was in Cincinatti this year but we were. It was expensive and we pay our own way. We did it to bring you coverage as best we could. We went to Sturgis, had planned on Heritage(canceled) and have covered Vegas etc.The moist important thing is we have tried to give recognition to those in the industry who need it or ask for it mostly for free. We do have a few sponsors but that doesn’t even scratch the surface.

So, here we are trying to bring ourselves and our readers the best we got about the industry and it’s players. What are our motives? What are Mr. Huze’ motives? I cfan only say that we don’t have any other than what I’ve stated. You see and hear peoiple saying terrible things about other people every day. It is with great sadness that we are being attacked in the very same way.Frankly, it’s a big turnoff but, we can’t allow this kind of person to change who we are. We are proud of who we are.

I ask you to look at our home page. People we respect and people many of you respext have taken the time to praise us. I suppose Mr. Huze will say we wrote those comments too. We have received praise from many others including Michael Prugh etc. We save emails and statements too Mr. Huze.

We now have to trust that those of you who know us and have been coming here for awhile will know that there is something very strange about what Mr. Huze is doing. We don’t get it but, maybe some of you do.Who is this man anyway? and why does he seem to spend so much time tracking other peoples websites and commenting as if he is a deity. We hope Mr. Huze is o.k and that he lives a long and fruitful life. We are done defending ourselve and playing this game in which there are no winners, that hurts the industry, and that is designed to try and destroy our effort. It’s really sad that we and for him Mr. Huze have had to spend time on this when there are so many positive things that need doing.

Stats For The Beachcruiser

March 29, 2008

Hey,

Yesterday started out as a decent day for Train and myself. Ah, you never know what lurks around the corner.

There are many things I would like to address but I am not going to do that now. We are going to post our stats for this month for the Beachcruiser. The numbers are incomplete as there is still most of today, tomorrow and Monday before the month officially ends.If I remember correctly months with 31 days usually end at 12:a.m. on the 31st.

We are doing this because we have been accused of not telling the truth about our numbers. We shouldn’t have to do this but, under the circumstances we want all of you to see them and you can decide whether we are truthful or not.The numbers are compiled on a system called Webalizer-FTP stats. All of the numbers are broken down in every way possible to tell the webmaster where visitors are coming from, hits, visits, etc.In so far as our sponsors are concerned the number of hits for the month are shown. Our sponsors have banners on our website and each time one of the banners is hit it takes the person directly to the sponsors website. We have posted this information before when accused of falsifying numbers and we thought we had put the issue to rest. There are obviously people who do not like us. We don’t know of more than a few but it seems they are determined to hurt us any way possible. We are showing you the stats not because we are bragging or are ashamed or obviously not because we are concerned about sharing them with you.We are doing it because we believe we have been falsly accused of something we ourselves do not like to see.We only talk about our “numbers” on occassion because we are proud of them. Yes, we want people to know who we are and yes, we want to attract potential sponsors for reasons I have already written about. The webalizer is an independent system for which we have absolutely no input. We began to question Alexa when our numbers there fell while our numbers on the Webalizer were growing. We have no control over Alexa and we did use it for a long time as we believed it was an accurate representation of who was coming here.We also used the webalizer at that time but found that after our system crashed about a year ago, our numbers started to fall. We did have a few slow months in the middle of last year for whatever reason. Our numbers and visitors started to really pick up a few months ago again and we got excited about that. When we have spoken about visitors etc we have always been truthful to the best of our knowledge. We said that each of our sponsors should reach about 20,000 hits this month. You can see that they all are over 17,000 with the month not yet over.We projected about a week ago that the hits should approach 20,000. We will see how close that estimate was at month end. The pickup according to webalizer came mostly from overseas. We have acknowledged and thanked our readers from all over the world for coming here.

This month we added a tool called feedjit. This tool is run by Google. It can be seen on the front of our blog page near the right hand top. The tool is a map that posts visits in real time from all over the world. It does not not tell you the number of visits but tells where readers are coming from. If you use the navigation tool(arrows) you get to see where people are coming from. You only have to click on the map to bring the program up. The map changes as visitors stop by. In countries like Europe because of the time difference the map is constantly changing. We are also are able to bring up where and how people have accessed us and what they were looking at.We think it is a really cool tool. Check it out! Once again we have NO control or input other than when we go to check out what’s happening that day.

Well, that’s the best I can do. I don’t walk on water and we use tools like these to track our stats until and unless we find out there is something wrong with them.We DON’T fabricate numbers.

We have learned some hard lessons about people over the last couple of years particularly in the motorcycle world. We have met some fantastic people, gone to some fantastic events and tried to bring to everyone who comes here the kind of experience we wanted before we started The Beachcruiser. We have also had exactly the opposite experience with just a few.We have tried to report on events, give exposure to builders of every ilk, report on the industry and yes, we have expressed our opinion. We have learned that expressing an opinion is a dangerous thing. There are people inside the industry and out who will never say anything they are really thinking and we understand why.Image is a big deal for good reason. The industry is pretty small and most people know each other. As in any business dependent on sales, image, and hype, no one wants anyone tothink badly of them.No one wants to rock the boat and real friendships are just like the real world. They are few and far between. We have been very lucky as we believe over all the motorcycle industry has more talented, more creative, more charitable people than any other.Overall, we believe that people in the industry are more friendly and more helpful than any other. We still think that there is a brotherhodd and sisterhood in the industry that doesn’t really exist anywhere else beyond the military, sports teams, and a few others where people are genuinly pulling for each other and willing to help.

We are a blog?, an online magazine of sorts and we are motorcycle enthusiasts. We sometimes forget that if you have an opinion you open yourself up to every form of criticism, intimidation, jealousy and hatred that unfortunately exists everywhere these days.My peers are the “older” folks who I have admired most of my life.Arlen Ness, Dave Perewitz, Donnie Smith,Ron Finch, and a number of other legendary builders come to mind as my icons. You can walk up to any of these folks and you aqlways get a smile, they engage in conversation(if they can)  and are exactly who you imagined they were.Bert Baker, Eddie Trotta, Doug Keim, Roger Goldammer, Michael Prugh, Brian Klock, Hank Young, Scott Long. These are great people and great artists who are just a tad younger.Their personna, my respect, my admiration for them has only grown. I probably left out some people which is always a danger when you name names so: forgive me if I have not mentioned someone. There is lots more to talk about and I will do that later.

In conclusion, we have also been lambasted for not posting comments that were obscene, intimidating and offensive. Well, if you go to any responsible website they do the same thing. You can say anything you want here as long as you can express yourself in some reasonable manner.Occassionally I have made the mistake of getting into the mud with some people who have attacked me, Train, or someone we know to be a great person. We have NEVER however resorted to four letter words, intimidation, or any other sleezy means to make a point.I have a temper and occassionally someone pushes my buttons. I have always been an in your face type of guy and sometimes I get myself in a bad situation. I am not proud of that and my intent has NEVER been to hurt anyone. I stand up for myself as that is all I know.

Zero Motorcycles - Bringing Clean Technology to the Dirty Sport of Off-Road Motorcycles

March 29, 2008

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire/ — Zero Motorcycles today announced the Zero X, a no-compromise electric motorcycle that has race winning performance without the obnoxious noise and pollution of regular gas motorcycles. Its electric drive system provides incredible torque, delivering all you would expect in a full-fledged high performance motorcycle.

“I rode the Zero X prototype in a demonstration motocross race in Las Vegas in 2007 and was very impressed,” said National Motocross Champion, Hall of Famer and TV commentator Jeff Emig. “I’m expecting the production version to have a huge impact in the motor sports industry.”

“Local motorcycle and backyard tracks are being closed because of the noise and pollution made by gasoline engines. I built the Zero X to enjoy off- road riding without the loud engine noise. At first customers are interested in our motorcycle because it’s silent and clean,” said Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of Zero Motorcycles. “After a test ride, they are amazed with the extraordinary power and torque that is packed in the lightweight battery unit.”

The Zero X is not a gas motorcycle conversion and was designed from the ground up to operate on 100% electric power. Neal applied his aerospace engineering degree and 15 years as a leading mountain bike designer to the problem. The chassis is made out of aircraft aluminum making it one of the lightest motorcycle frames on the planet at 18 pounds. More than 300 individual parts were custom fabricated and result in a total weight of only 140 pounds. That helps the Zero X weigh in at less than half the weight of a gas powered motorcycle.

What makes the Zero X truly different from other electric motorcycles is the use of a special high power Lithium Ion battery. The Zero X is the only motorcycle in production today that incorporates this powerful, longer lasting, and more efficient battery solution. Zero Motorcycle’s patent-pending high capacity power grid technology has the highest power density (power storage per weight) battery pack on the market, delivering the full current of the battery pack immediately, safely and without overheating. Riders get the enjoyment of up to 2 hours of quality riding without seeing any impact on performance. To complete the cycle and keep it green, the Zero X battery unit is 100% recyclable and landfill approved.

Zero Motorcycles is even getting mountain bikers interested in riding an electric motorcycle. “This motorcycle has given me the connection with the trail, the single tracking maneuverability and closeness to nature I get on a mountain bike; while blasting up the hill at full throttle,” says Mark Weir, International Professional Mountain Bike racer.

Zero Motorcycles has created the next generation of motorcycle technology. With the release of the Zero X, the first of what will be a series of powerful, capable, clean electric motorcycles is now available.

You can find out more about the Zero X and general information on Zero Motorcycle’s website, www.zeromotorcycles.com.

Hey,

You can all read what Mr. Huze has to say.I would also like to direct you to the comments and the last one in particular.

Slopoke( internet handle) is a long time friend of this website. He is a friend, a brother and someone we trust and respect. You can read his comment about Mr. Huze and what he has said.

It seems that Mr. Huze in his post where he ranks himself #1 is also saying that Keith Ball is disingenuous about his statistics. Keith as you know runs Bikernet and has posted often that his numbers are much greater than what Mr. Huze states. Alexa is a non-reliable source of information which is why we do not use it anymore. We have found webalizer and now feedjit to be much more accurate. Frankly, we don’t care who goes to what website. We care about who reads The Beachcruiser and that we are doing our best to help our brothers and sisters and provide the highest quality website. We NEVER have inflated anything!! and we can prove what we say.We do NOT agressively go after sponsors although we sure could use some more who we respect and who respect us.The need for sponsors is predicated on helping us give you the best we got and the costs of running this website and covering events. We don’t make money doing this. As a matter of fact our personal costs are thousands of dollars to do what we do.We post every day and spend numerous hours trying to be the best we can be.I have a job and so does Train. The Beachcruiser is a labor of love.

We have posted the opinions about Alexa made by people who work for google and explain why Alexa is not dependable.Mr. Huze is quoting those stats and frankly, we don’t care. We stand behind what we say.

Perhaps, Mr. Huze could explain why he posts those numbers. Perhaps, he thinks they are accurate but seo professionals say they are not.It is interesting that Mr. Huze cites “fraud” and deceiving advertisers by different webmasters. It is interesting that he is quoting stats from a source seo professionals say is not to be trusted.

Mr. Huze has allowed his commentors to slander this website for a long time.We asked him to stop but, he seems to have a Vendetta against us. A webmaster is responsible for what he or she allows on his or her website. We told him that if he continued to do this we would explore our legal rights. The fact is we never go to his website so I have no way of knowing whether that is still going on or not. If you look at the article he wrote today he singles out our website as one whose numbers are not accurate. He does not mention anyone else. We only know about it because a reader wrote to tell us. He further goes on to say that people looking for bicycles come here.Well, this website by our research is growing particularly overseas. Why would anyone looking for a bicycle in China or Finland, or France, or Canada,or italy, or Afghanistan, or Abu Dabi, or Thailand,or Spain, or Mexico, orSoth Africa,or Australia, or all the rest of our readers go to the U.S. to look for a bicycle? The name of this website by the way is Custom Motorcycle Talk by Beachcruiser. It would seem that people using the key word motorcycle or custom motorcycle etc would be more likely to come here. Why are we getting so many visitors each month? Anyone searching for a bicycle who came here once would never come back.We have a ton of repeat visitors.

There you have it. You all can make up your own minds about us and Mr. Huze.We didn’t and don’t do this to get involved with this type of person.I probably shouldn’t have reacted at all but, alas, I am human.Train, for those of you who know her is probably the nicest, sweetist person I know or have ever known. When someone attacks her, more than me, I get pissed. When Cyril Huze questions our integrity or his readers say nasty things about this website it hurts her.She is the tech person here and Mr. Huze’s attacks are a direct attack on her as she compiles the stats. She is an i.t. professional and knows what she is doing.I hope Cyril is proud of himself.

O.K., I will say no more about all of this. After all, I know you people, our friends and family do not come here to read this.I want to apologize for taking this public. This is not who I am or what I want to do. I wonder how any of you would react under the circumstances.I felt the need to defend myself and Train which I shouldn’t have to do.

We appreciate all of you who come here and we will go forward giving you the best we got.We are sorry for this “skirmish” and we won’t participate any more. We leave you to decide.
