Bert Baker-An American Story
May 20, 2008
Hey,
We’ve been at this for just over two years now and we have had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people. I have been thinking about that lately and I wanted to share my take on some of the greats, the most talented, the most influential, the best people Train and I have had the honor to meet and get to know. I wanted to start with Bert Baker who symbolizes everything great in the motorcycle industry.
Bert is the founder and creative genius behind Baker Drivetrain.Bert is an engineer with a college degree. He and his wife took the big risk and started their business about a decade ago.His first product was inspired by the desire to do something about the vibrations inherent in most Harley Davidson’s of that time.He created that product and Baker was off and running. He has gone on to innovate the very best products in the world to enhance the ride we enjoy today.Baker products are found on most of the great motorcycles of the past decade and it is hard to find a custom bike without a Baker product making it go. Bert is driven by the quest for perfection.Every Baker product must be perfect and he backs up what he makes with the same pride and dedication he demands from his designs. He runs his shop to reflect who he is and he gives his people the freedom to be creative.Bert is one of the most important people the industry has and his legacy is established. When people talk about creative genius, Bert’s name will forever be one of the few that come to mind first.
Bert Baker is a humble man. He lives and works in Michigan so we only get to see him at the shows and events we attend. He sponsors us and numerous others in the industry. Bert and his media director ( Scout) were amongst the first to support our effort and that is something we will never forget. Bert’s wife Lisa is his business partner as well as his life partner and together they built the business that Baker has become.Bert has a wicked sense of humor. He makes me smile whenever I get to spend a little time with him and he is as nice a guy as he is brilliant.
Bert is all over the place. He attends so many events that I don’t know how he does it.He is constantly creative and has the business to run.Bert is also a very charitable guy. He is deeply involved in charitable work and he somehow has found the time to play a key role in the ” Biker Breakfast’s” that started out in Sturgis and for the past couple of years have been in Daytona as well. Billy Lane started these events to raise money for very worthy causes. Most of the best folks in the industry participate in these events and one can attend by just purchasing a ticket. You get to meet the legends, the up and coming and there is an auction where you can bid on some very cool memorabilia. The breakfast isn’t gourmet faire but, no one really comes to eat. Everyone comes to celebrate the “life”, catch up with each other, meet the fans and party. Every cent goes to the chosen charity so: it’s a win win all around. You can purchase tickets for the Sturgis breakfast on Baker’s website www.bakerdrivetrain.com. You can get there by clicking on the Baker banner on our website. You can also see what Baker is all about and oogle the incredible products this company makes. This guy is what it’s all about for me as I am sure you can tell.
We did one of our interviews with Bert on the Family Jewels part of this website. We are going to open that up to everyone at no cost so you can get to meet the people who make up the best in the industry up close and personal. We have about 23 interviews and Bert’s was one of my favorites.
Well, this is the first of several pieces I plan to write on the people I have met who inspire me and for whom I have the greatest respect.I can’t think of anyone better to start with than Bert Baker.

Beach,
This was a great post. So informative.
There was so much I did not know, that I’m glad I do now.
Interesting as long as I’ve been into motorcycles, that I only knew about Baker Drivetrains.
Thanks,
Mr. Motorcycle
