Chopper Challenge- Mitch Bergeron

June 26, 2008

Hey,

Just a comment on last nights Chopper Challenge.

I like Mitch Bergeron a lot. I didn’t love the bike he built for this show but that’s just personal taste. I am not a fan of such an extended front end. The paint was cool and of course the components were the best. When you have an S+S Evo motor and a Baker 6 speed Tranny to power a motorcycle, you have the best. The sponsor this time was the Mohegan Sun Casino on the east coast.Mitch didn’t fabricate much or at least we didn’t see it so, he more or less just assembled the bike.

The show seems to spend too much time on stuff like exploring the San Andreas Fault and watching Mitch shoot various guns. I don’t know what that has to do with building a kick ass motorcycle but, each episode seems to go farther away from the actual idea as I know it.We do get to know the builders in an up close and personal way but, we don’t get to experience the actual build. It seems like the build tonight was an after thought.Mitch had a couple of friends helping him out and said he does most everything by himself these days. In these times you see that a lot. Each show ends with a party unveiling the build. I did think the seat built by Bitchin seats was very cool and the paint done by Buck Wild was first rate.I was glad to see the fender blank came from Randy Simpson at Milwaukee Iron.

I love motorcycles and I am really glad we have a new show to watch.I think it’s really great that the sponsors have stepped up and that CMT is giving us ait time. I just wish the producers would give us a little more of the build itself. There are two episodes left and Alan Lee is next weeks featured builder.

I liked the bike Mitch built. I think he is very talented. Loved his BBO bike. I wonder about the 30 day thing as being the very reason there is less bike time. A cost thing. You could film all the none bike stuff in one day. But to have a crew there even once a week for a month would cost a lot I’ll bet. I am very glad CMT is running the show. I too like all the bike stuff. It just must have been very costly for the BBO shows. Well thats what I’m a wondering.

I am in complete agreement that no 2 people are going to agree on the overall look of a custom bike.
What makes Mitch and the late Indian Larry my undisputed “bike build-off” favorites are their lack of over-the top bravado and sheer joy at creating. As well as their appreciation for their “gifts” for not only conceptualization, but the ability to get their hands dirty, too!

Got something to say?
