The Right Thing To Do
June 27, 2008
Hey,
We got an email comment from a reader today. The comment really put us up against the wall.
We have a policy of printing any comment as long as it isn’t outrageously profane and isn’t written to intimidate or hurt anyone. We also want to expose the bad people in the industry if we know the things being said are true. The quandry is when someone writes in about a builder we know. In this case we have a good friend who owns a bike created by this builder and loves it.We also know the builder does good work for charity. The writer is saying some pretty damning things and we have chosen NOT to post his comment.I am torn because we have a mantra to try and help the public avoid the bad guys.We also don’t want to be a party to slander or personal problems. We have experienced slander and we have experienced dishonest people ourselves.
I want to say this. When you purchase a bike from ANYONE make sure you do your homework. You have to take the time to get referals, get everything in writing and follow the build. I am talking about custom builders but, this holds true for dealers as well. There are a number of bad dealers who let’s say don’t provide good service, treat customers badly after purchase and simply put, they can make your life miserable.I am sure that there are folks who don’t have a lot of kind words for A.I.H. right now.It happens rarely but, sometimes companies and dealers go bust. It can be market driven, mis-manangement, a whole lot of reasons. It also can be fraud.
There is some risk when you purchase anything from a home to a motorcycle. One must be dilligent when purchasing an expensive item and do all they can to make sure they are dealing with reputable people with a history. One should get referrals, check out the shop, talk to the builder and get the deal in writing. It’s the only way to go.
