We Need It- Las Vegas Bikefest
September 18, 2008
Hey,
Train and I are REALLY looking forward Vegas Bikefest. Not only is it a world class event but it’s in Vegas where hopefully we will get to relax a little. There is a lot of economic turmoil and Train and I are right in the middle of it. It’s been several months of extreme stress and we haven’t had a chance to do what we love best(RIDE). We will get to see our friends and hopefully make some new ones.I will get to come up from hiding under the table and breath from fresh air.
I promoted Chicago way back when no one knew who they were. They went by the name Chicago Transit Authority back then and they had not yet “broken out” I was doing a concert in Connecticut and I went to Ashley Famous. Ashley was a talent agency back when and they sent me a few demos to listen to. We had a very limited budget and I was blown away by CTA so: I booked them. It cost $2000. They became “hot” between the time I signed them and the actual concert and we turned a profit of $50k. Unfortunately for me I got NOTHING for my work but a very worthwhile charity got a fat check. I still have the origional contract.
We did a bunch more including Ten Years after with Alvin Lee. He was the “fastest” guitar man of his generation. We did The Youngbloods, Jefferson Starship with Grace Slick, a younger James Taylor when he was with Apple Records, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Bonnie Rait, Buffalo Springfield and more. It was the most fun time of my life. I played rythm guitar in a band called “some dead bears”. We didn’t make the big time but we were a very hot local band. I did some vocals and our leader was Jack”Studebaker” Hardy of the iconic car family. He wrote and was our lead singer and last I heard he is still at it.
Well, now you know a little more about my youth and who I am. Lucky you. The Train is my best friend, my partner, the best part of my life. I am a lucky guy.

Everyone looks forward to the Vegas Bikefest year round. In fact the guys over at IronWorks were talking about that the other day. It’s one of those places you just remember—and you always want to go back. If I remember, Dain and Paul should be there. Not sure in Marilyn will be able to make it or not. Personally, I know I’ll be there. I wouldn’t miss it—who cares if the magazine sends me or not!
